What is Arrest, Booking, And Post-Arrest Custody, Pretrial Release

Arrests

When law enforcement officers or police arrest people, they physically take the arrestees into custody. Police typically make people under arrest into custody, placed into a police vehicle, and then transferred to jail, or criminal processing facility for an administrative process often assigned to as booking. Seldom the police will release arrestees without filing charges, but if charges are arranged, the arrestee will have to remain in custody until freed on bail, until a court gives a judgment, or until the case is unless resolved.

Booking

Booking is the legislative method that follows an arrest. During this process, the police conduct a series of tasks, such as taking the arrestee’s photo, recording personal data such as name, date of birth, and age, getting fingerprints, taking any physical properties the arrestee has and placing them into a storage facility, seeking for any warrants, performing a health evaluation, and putting the arrestee in a detainment holding room.

Post-Arrest Custody and Pretrial Release

After the police have arrested and booked a person, one of three things will usually follow: First, the police can free the defendant with a written paper to appear at court. Next is, the police can release the defendant only after she or he pays the appropriate bail amount. Third, the police can keep the defendant under custody until a court takes a bail hearing.
